Almost everyone starts with the free version of ChatGPT. If you use it every day, you soon hit the limits. Then the question is which plan to take. OpenAI now has six, from free to custom business pricing. For a company there is a second question: who manages the accounts, and what happens to your data?

Free, Go, Plus and Pro are personal plans without central management. OpenAI also charges in US dollars in the Netherlands. Prices exclude VAT. Free and Go may contain ads.

ChatGPT Plus: what do you get and what does it cost?

ChatGPT Plus is the best-known ChatGPT plan and costs $20 a month. Plus gives you everything in Go, plus:

  • advanced reasoning models with GPT-6

  • more messages and uploads

  • projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs

  • extended deep research

  • wider access to Codex and ChatGPT Work

  • no ads

If you write, summarise or analyse with ChatGPT every day, Plus usually pays for itself quickly. If you use it a few times a week, Go is often enough.

ChatGPT Go and Pro: cheaper or heavier

ChatGPT Go is the entry plan and costs $8 a month. You get more messages, uploads and images than in the free version, and a larger memory. Go may contain ads.

ChatGPT Pro is meant for people who use ChatGPT intensively all day, for example for long analyses or coding. Pro starts at $100 a month and you choose from three usage levels. The higher the level, the higher your limit. Unsure between ChatGPT Plus and Pro? Start with Plus and only move up when you regularly hit the limit.

ChatGPT cost per month for your team

If you work with a team, do the maths. Ten separate Plus accounts cost $200 a month in total. ChatGPT Business for ten people on Standard licenses also costs $200 a month billed annually, or $250 billed monthly. For the same amount, Business gives you central management and one invoice instead of ten.

Give heavy users a Premium license. It includes more usage and no five-hour limit. Start with Standard licenses and only move someone up when they hit the limit.

ChatGPT for business: Business or Enterprise

Looking for ChatGPT Team? That plan is now called ChatGPT Business. It is meant for teams of 2 to 200 people. You get:

  • an admin environment with central billing

  • sign-in through SSO and MFA

  • connectors for Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and more

  • shared spaces to work together with your team and agents

  • the commitment that OpenAI does not use your business data for training by default

ChatGPT Enterprise is meant for larger organisations with stricter requirements. Think of automatic user management through SCIM, your own key management, data residency in one of ten regions and 24/7 support with SLAs. OpenAI does not publish a fixed price. You agree on it with the sales team.

Is a ChatGPT subscription safe for your business? Privacy and GDPR

On Free, Go, Plus and Pro, OpenAI may use your conversations to train its models, unless you turn that off in the settings. On Business and Enterprise this does not happen by default. If your team enters personal data into ChatGPT, you process that data under the GDPR. So agree which data your team can and cannot enter. With separate personal accounts, you have no control over that.

Which ChatGPT subscription fits you?

  • The occasional question: the free version is enough.

  • A few times a week and no objection to ads: choose Go.

  • Daily use by one person: choose Plus.

  • Intensive use all day: choose Pro.

  • A team of 2 to 200 people: choose Business.

  • SCIM, your own key management or support agreements needed: choose Enterprise.

Cancelling your ChatGPT subscription

You cancel a personal plan in ChatGPT itself. Go to your settings, open Account and choose to cancel your subscription. You keep access until the end of the current billing period. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it there. A Business plan is managed by the admin of your workspace.

Using ChatGPT for business: agree on the rules too

The subscription is the first step. Next, you decide which data your team can put into ChatGPT, who manages which projects and how you check the output. Without those agreements, everyone uses it their own way, even with a business account.
